Squishy

Squishy is our newest lesson pony addition!! His owner has graciously allowed him to join our program and have a ton of fun with our wonderful students. He is quickly growing his own little fan club here. His lofty gaits, desire to please and friendly disposition are all hard to pass up. We are so excited to build lots of memories with this sweet pony!

Likes: Bananas and lots of pets!

Dislikes: TBD!

Freya

Percheron/Quarter Horse

This lovely young mare is a Percheron/Quarter horse cross with an interesting past: she was bred and raised by the Kentucky Mennonite community as a cart horse! She is currently in training with Beth learning the ropes of dressage, showjumping and cross country. While she still has a lot to learn, this sweet mare has the perfect disposition to be a wonderful lesson horse for our more advanced riders someday soon! For now, she is enjoying learning to be an eventer and having a blast doing it!

Likes: Cross country, attention, and Alfalfa Hay

Dislikes: The lawnmower 🙁

Bunny

Welsh pony

This adorable little grey pony is a very special girl here at Firefly Farm! She quickly earned a spot as a lesson pony favorite with the young riders, especially those who love her powerful jump and fun trot. Bunny has received such a warm welcome here at the farm. Each and every lesson kid has shown her the most loving care. Bunny loves long grooming sessions – in fact she often falls asleep in the cross ties before the kids are even done with the curry comb!!

Likes: Jumping and curry combs!

Dislikes: her ears being touched – no thank you!

Ima Iny Too (“Andy”)

Thoroughbred

Ima Iny Too, known affectionately as “Andy,” is Beth’s primary competition horse. Andy is an off-the-track thoroughbred who was born on April 16, 2011. His racing career was cut short when he suffered a fractured front sesamoid. After rehabbing that injury (and a few others!), he began his new career as an event horse, where he truly thrives! He loves each phase, but galloping around the cross country course with his ears perked is definitely his favorite part! Andy is one of the sweetest horses you’ll ever meet, and he LOVES when the lesson kids come to visit him at the horse trials!

Likes: Galloping! Cross Country! Jumping! Dressage! All the things! Attention! Snacks! More galloping!

Dislikes: Not doing all the things! Let’s go do them!

Hermes

Connemara/Welsh Pony

Sweet, handsome Hermes is a 13.2 hh Connemara/Welsh Pony cross and was born in 2005. Beth has known him since he was a foal, and she even participated in getting him started as a riding horse! He has taught several young riders the ropes, from posting trot to eventing competition. Hermes’ sweet attitude and talent as a lesson horse has earned him the title of a pony club favorite back in his hay day (pun totally intended)! He is very friendly and quite the athlete, and he loves helping young equestrians learn to ride.

Likes: Being told how beautiful he is, showing off his fancy dressage moves, and Donkey

Dislikes: The vet!!!

Don Quixote

Donkey

DonQuixote (donkey… get it?! haha!) is our cute little resident troublemaker. He likes to watch the lessons from his stall, and sometimes when he feels like Hermes is hogging all the attention, he brays until someone brings him a treat!

DonQui isn’t used for riding, of course, but he still loves hanging out with our lesson students and begging for cookies, carrots and back scratches!

DonQui is also Hermes’s best friend, and the two are totally inseparable.

Likes: Attention!! Alll the attention! And Hermes.

Dislikes: when everyone goes on a trail ride without him 🙁
